How I Saw Through a Deepfake Nicole Kidman Scam – Learn from My Experience
Scammers are getting smarter every day, and they’re now using advanced tools like deepfake technology to con people. I recently encountered a scam that used a highly convincing deepfake of Nicole Kidman, and I want to share my story to help others avoid falling for similar traps.
Right from the beginning, I had a gut feeling this was a scam – I was 99.99% sure. But what sealed the deal was when the scammer, posing as Nicole Kidman, asked me to invest in some sketchy company and buy a membership card. The video was shockingly realistic, and the fake Nicole even said, “I love you, Tolga,” to make it sound personal.

The communication took place over a military-grade encrypted messaging app. I checked into it, and the encryption was so safe it would take up to 40 years with the best quantum computer of today to decrypt. Using such an app was a major red flag, confirming my suspicions but at the same time, I was fully aware these people were not simple street thieves not only were they using top artists’ names, but they were also using sophisticated technologies impossible to decrypt with the technology of today.. I decided to play along for a bit to see how far they’d go, but when I mentioned I had no money left for the month(true not for fun), the scammer immediately lost their cool and replied with “WTF.” 🙂 This was 100 per cent approval of a scam.
What You Should Know:
- Always Trust Your Instincts: Even though the deepfake was incredibly realistic, I knew from the start that this was likely a scam. Trust your gut.
- Be Skeptical of Investment Offers: If it sounds too good to be true – especially from a celebrity – it probably is.
- Beware of Unusual Communication Apps: The scammer used one of the most advanced military-grade encrypted app to create a false sense of security. If someone uses obscure platforms, question their motives.
- Look for Behavioral Red Flags: The shift from politeness to rudeness (“WTF”) when I refused to send money was a huge confirmation and a clue.
By sharing my story, I hope to help others recognize and avoid these kinds of scams. Technologyhttps://www.bbc.com/news/technology has made it easier for scammers to deceive, but by staying alert, you can protect yourself. If you ever find yourself in a similar situation, report it immediately.
I have already reported this incident to the authorities, and I encourage everyone else to do the same if they come across similar scams.
